This week Mina has officially turned 1, and what better way to celebrate than to reflect on our story and achievements so far!
Taking it back to the start
Co-Founders Ash and Chris first met through Sheffield Digital back in 2019 where Ash’s idea to simplify payments for EV charging started to become a reality. In August 2020, Andy joined the founding team as CTO and after gaining investment from our angel investors, we welcomed our very first employee, Head of Engineering Elliott Chaim. Fast forward to today, we’ve moved into bigger premises twice to accommodate our growing team which now sees 13 ambitious employees all striving to work towards our vision of having a world with zero emissions from road transport.
Starting a business in the middle of a global pandemic hasn’t been easy, but thanks to our incredible team, we’ve grown from strength to strength and are incredibly proud and humble of all our accomplishments.
Developing our platform
We’ve developed a SaaS platform called Edison to simplify paying for EV charging at home, work, and in public. The backbone of Edison is a complex system that integrates with charge points, vehicles, the national grid, public charging networks, and energy suppliers.
Mina’s Co-founder and CTO Andy Gunn comments: “From the start, we understood the importance of investing in the right people. I’m so proud of the team and what they’ve achieved in such a short space of time – Edison is a solid foundation for the future.”
In October 2020 we launched Chargepass®, a single RFID card which allows drivers to charge at one of the thousands of charge points across the UK, with plans to grow our network significantly over the coming months.
Through all of this, we’ve received multiple awards for our solution, which is now used by some of the UK’s largest fleets – something we’re incredibly proud of.
Earlier this year we raised further investment from our brilliant angel investors and significant investment from FLEETCOR, one of the world’s largest business payments companies, which will enable us to accelerate our growth ambitions.
Mina’s Co-founder and COO Chris Dalrymple comments: “Starting Mina has been a real rollercoaster ride, and we’re incredibly proud of what our brilliant little team has achieved since we welcomed our first full time team member back in August 2020. We have huge plans for the future and we’re looking forward to helping businesses add thousands of electric vehicles to the UKs roads in 2021 and beyond.”
Supporting local charity
This year we’ve been lucky enough to work with local charity Heeley City Farm to support them in running a programme to help educate our future generation to become more sustainable through donations made for every driver we onboard to our platform.
And we’re only just getting started!!! We can’t wait to see what the next 12 months brings. A big thank you to our wonderful team, investors, partners, customers and drivers!
