Back in November, the Prime Minister, Transport Secretary and Business Secretary announced that the phase-out date for the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans, would be brought forward to 2030.
It really isn’t that far away is it? In just under 9 years all new sales of cars and vans will be fully electric. Fleets of all sizes have what could be a big task on hand as they transition to electric vehicles (EV).
The current market has a variety of solutions available to help fleets make the switch, but who stands out from the crowd and do they tick all of the boxes? We’ll let you decide…
“Accelerating the transition to electric vehicles by making paying for EV charging radically simple”
Mina’s mission was set out by Co-Founders Ashely Tate, Chris Dalrymple and Andy Gunn, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
Accurate energy costs
The government’s advisory mileage rate for EVs is 4p per mile. Meaning companies can pay employees 4p per mile for every business mile travelled in an EV. This often leaves employees out of pocket, and requires them to pay out and wait to be paid back. Not a good experience for your drivers!
When a driver onboards with Mina, we collect key information from them such as their home energy provider and tariff rate. At the end of the month, we retrieve their home charging data and calculate the exact cost of charging their EV at home. Mina then credits the driver’s energy provider directly – We even track supplier and tariff changes.
Not only is this process accurate, drivers don’t experience ‘bill shock’, who would otherwise see a surge in their home energy charges, or even worse, have the wrong account credited if they switch suppliers.
So we’ve established drivers don’t have to pay anything for their home charging, what about public?
Nothing for the driver to pay
I think we can all agree, no one likes an expense form! They can be a headache to fill and you can bet your bottom dollar at least one receipt goes missing. More importantly, drivers could be out of pocket whilst they patiently wait until their employer reimburses them the following month.
With Mina’s Chargepass, drivers can charge at thousands of public charge points within our network with a simple tap of their RFID card, and the best bit… they don’t pay a penny!
That’s right. All of those expense claims, receipts and out of pocket moments are totally eliminated.
We even integrate your businesses mileage capture system, so drivers don’t need to inform us of their personal vs business mile split. If you don’t use a system to capture this information, and need to capture it somewhere, drivers are invited to submit their split via the Mina Driver App at the end of the month.
No admin to manage
The fleet owner will receive one monthly single invoice that captures both home and public charging across their entire fleet. So not only will the driver have no expenses to submit, businesses will save costs on payroll reimbursements. Best of all, because of our unique VAT reporting, businesses are able to reclaim VAT on employees’ home charging.
Working with all charge points
Right back at the start we mentioned Mina has the ability to retrieve home charging data for each driver at the end of every month. You’re probably thinking: “Does this mean our whole fleet needs a specific charge point brand installed?”
The good news is no!
Drivers don’t need to have a specific charge point installed because we can integrate with all charge points, no matter what the brand. We retrieve the data straight from the manufacturer so your employees don’t need to lift a finger.
Our award winning solution is the only one in the UK that allows fleet vehicles to be charged at home and on the road, resulting in one simple bill for the fleet owner.
So the big task you thought you may have, as you start your journey in transitioning to EV, really isn’t one when you choose Mina.
